Eagles Falter in Season Opener.


After jumping out to a 3 -0 lead the Eagles gave up six runs in the third to a good Warwick team - Final score Warwick 13 - Burke Catholic 3.

Junior Kyle Dudgeon held Warwick in check for two innings,  but some shaky defense and an extended pitch count for the season opener , opened the door for a 7 run Warwick inning.

Freshman Mat Ulrich banged out two hits while classmate Jimmy Franchese shut down the Warwick offense with 3 scoreless innings. Both boys had excellent starts to their varsity careers.

The young Eagles , rostering 13 underclassman , will have to learn to compete at the Varsity Level.

The Eagles head to VC  on Wednesday for another tough game against a AA opponent.

Schedule changes: In school announcements

Baseball for JV and Varsity tryouts  begin 03/10/2014. Initial practices will be in the gym and parking lot until the field is read to play on. Attendance is required if you plan to play on either team. Any player that is signed up to play will need to inform coach Trezza if a practice will be missed. Any player that misses practice without notice will not be allowed to practice until a note from a parent is received and evaluated by coach Trezza. Please note:  detention , work, practices with other teams,  are NOT excused absences.

Players are expected to know the schedule . Please do not text the coaches unless emergency. Information about schedule changes will be announced in the school - so please pay attention.

We are excited that all indications suggest we will have a JV team. Once the teams are selected practice schedules will be altered.

Proper workout attire is expected for the gym workouts along with baseball equipment. No tee shirts. Players should be prepared to go outside for workouts. Players must have their PPFs , If not, they can not practice.

Initial Workout Schedule:

• Each day after school 3 - 4:45 ( possibly longer for Varsity members). Possible weekend for varsity members. Be READY to practice at start time.
• No rosters have been set and all players will have the opportunity to compete.

We have ordered new uniforms for the varsity players. We will have a fund raiser to help pay for our program. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's going to be a great season for Burke Catholic Baseball.

Jameis Winston made the move from the gridiron to the diamond on Tuesday as the Heisman Trophy winner joined the Florida State baseball team in a spring training game against the Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Yankees, without most of their stars, beat the Semioles, 8-3.

Winston entered the game in the fifth inning as the leftfielder and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a groundout.
